Company History
Rohto Mentholatum Nepal Pvt. Ltd. was officially established in Nepal on 22nd June 2018. Rohto Mentholatum Nepal is a subsidiary company of Rohto Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Osaka, Japan. Rohto Pharmaceutical was established 120 years i.e. in the year 1899 AD. Briefly, following timeline shows the history of Rohto.
Founded in 1899
The Establishment year
The Shintendo Yamada Pharmacy was born with a capital of 3,000 Yen, introducing Ikatsu a medicine to treat stomach pain.
Year 1909
The Rohto eye drops brand first appeared on the market.
Year 1949
Renaming
Yamada Pharmaceutical was renamed Rohto Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. with an investment of 10 million yen, chaired by Kiro Yamada.
Year 1988
US Market
Obtain control over Mentholatum, Inc. (THE USA).
Year 1999
100 years of Company
Celebrating 100 years of establishment.
Ueno Technical Center was born and started operating eye drops production, research and development centers, logistics centers.
Inaugurating and putting into operation Rohto-Mentholatum (Vietnam) factory in VSIP industrial park (Binh Duong) – the first pharmaceutical factory in Vietnam to meet GMP standard. The company started to produce V. Rohto, LipIce and Deep Heat products for Vietnam market, and also exported to Japan market.
Year 2004
Mentholatum, Inc. (USA) successfully bought the Oxy brand, a product line for treating oily gland inflammation on the skin.

Establishment of Rohto Mentholatum Nepal Pvt. Ltd.
Rohto has established its factory and warehouse in Nepal at Nasikasthan -13, Bhaisepati, Banepa, Kavre. Globally, Rohto is the manufacturer of mainly two categories of product: Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetics products. However, in Nepal, Rohto will initially produce its wide varieties of skin care products.
Corporate Philosophy
Now, Rohto is tackling new challenges under the slogan, “Never Say Never”. The literal meaning is “nothing is impossible”, but it is never intended to mean “work hard with a gutsy attitude”. This declaration is about finding the resolve to face up to difficulties for the future happiness of others. Our challenge is to aim for “healthy life”. Everybody wishes for “good health” and it is a source of happiness. Rohto defines “health” as being more that the avoidance of illness. Being healthy oneself leads to one’s family being healthy, and by extension, this radiance of health outspreads into society at large. We consider “health” as not just being about mental and physical aspects, but also contributing to society.
